CGI Maths: Students are given 3 number sets to choose from, all at varying levels of difficulty. The challenge with CGI (Cognitively Guided Instruction) is not to get the correct answer, but to solve the problem in more than one way. Students may be asked to solve something like this subtraction with regrouping problem using at least 3 different unique strategies. Students then present their strategies to classmates ranging from the most simple to the most creative and complex, to expose the entire class to several methods of solving maths problems.
Doodle Write: Students are given a base image (a doodle) and use their creativity to create a picture using the doodle. They then write a story that is connected to the picture they just created.
Good Fit Book: Students are learning to find a book that they can comprehend (understand & picture what is happening), adds new & interesting vocabulary (has a few words we don't know on every page), has a purpose (we want to read it vs. we have to) and sparks their interest.
Math Games: These will be an important center in our student’s maths instruction. These math games cover important skills we will be learning this year, with a special emphasis on number sense and math facts.
Reading Stamina: Students have been working on reading without getting distracted, they are trying to work up to longer amounts of time each day.
